The Taverham Band Spring Concert

Taverham Band April 2011Taverham Band 2011

Last year we were chosen as the Taverham Band's Charity for 2010.  It was a busy year with  Angie and Bob attending concerts throughout the year to tell people about Stepping Stones.  Many of us went to the 'Songs from the Musicals' concert back in the Autumn and at Christmas we had a collection at Asda in Norwich, while the band played Christmas Carols.

On April 2nd of this year some of us went to the Taverham Band Spring Concert at Taverham Village Hall.  We decided to make cakes to serve with the teas and coffees, as a way to thank the band for all the support they have given us. The students and Linda had been really busy in the kitchen making all the different cakes.  Bob made a speech about Stepping Stones and some of us went up the front to present Ian (the conductor) with a photo collage of all the students.  The band played some music from the movies such us The Pink Panther, Zulu, Born Free and lots more. We recognised some of the tunes and we clapped to some of the songs.

During the interval we had some cakes and drinks. Some people told us our cakes were out of this world.  In the second half the band played a Michael Bauble song. Then Ian the conductor called the raffle, but I didn’t win anything. Angie won a Norfolk tea towel. We clapped at the end of the show which finished at 10.15 pm.  We  enjoyed the evening and were glad our cakes went down well.

Butlins Minehead 2010

In September 2010 a large group from Stepping Stones went on holiday to Butlins in Minehead.  We had a great five days packed with activities including:  Cadbury World, Lynton and Lynmouth railway, swimming, cream teas and nights out at Centre Stage.  We liked the Minehead area so much, (and as we didn't have time to do all the activities we wanted) we are returning there for our 2011 holiday in September.

Twenty Years of Stepping Stones

This year is the 20th Anniversary of Stepping Stones.  In June we had a party to celebrate. It was held at Parkside School and all the students and staff were there as well as parents, carers and lots of friends.  The Garden was decorated with all the lovely things we had made in our craft lessons.  We had made giant coloured wool balls, bunting and colourful paper lanterns, which were my idea.

I liked the jazz band who were playing on stage. The party was  opened by Roy Waller from BBC Radio Norfolk. The room was full of photos of all of us from the old days and some more recent ones.  To eat  we had hog roast and we had a special cake in the shape of 5 stepping stones with the words ‘1989 to 2009 Stepping Stones Celebrating 20 Years’.

When we left we got a box of sweets and  a special anniversary newsletter. We had all decorated different boxes and they looked really nice and colourful.
