News Update March 2010:  Stepping Stones has been chosen as the Taverham Band Charity for 2010

We feel very privileged that we have been chosen by the Taverham Band - who hold an ongoing series of very popular concerts across Norfolk each year, including several at their home base at Taverham Village Hall - as the charity they want to support during 2010.

The band, whose Musical Director is Ian Colman,  was formed in 1974 and currently has 47 members. In addition to this there are 24 youngsters    learning to play - the junior teaching section is very important for the future of course.  All those who play are volunteers.

The band's support of local charities has amounted to £33,000 over the past fifteen years.

We hope to arrange various events with them   during the course of the year to give the students - and staff and trustees! - the chance to be involved and even perhaps to tinkle a triangle,  coax a note out of a cornet or bang on the big bass drum!

Thank you Taverham Band for choosing us.

You can find out more about the band and when they will be playing by visiting their website at  www.taverhamband.org

Stepping Stones on Holiday 2009

This Autumn we went on holiday to Butlins in Skegness.  Twenty one of us spent four nights there,  enjoying the funfairs and Red Coats entertainment.  We saw Kylie and Pink tribute acts, made ourselves dizzy on the funfair at Fantasy Island and shopped at a giant market.  We also said hello to the Donkeys, saw a Latin Circus, went to the movies and bowling and saw England beat Croatia in the football.

We had a great time and the weather was good all week long.

Celebrating 20 Years

This year is the 20th Anniversary of Stepping Stones.  In June we had a party to celebrate. It was held at Parkside School and all the students and staff were there as well as parents, carers and lots of friends.  The Garden was decorated with all the lovely things we had made in our craft lessons.  We had made giant coloured wool balls, bunting and colourful paper lanterns, which were my idea.

I liked the jazz band who were playing on stage. The party was  opened by Roy Waller from BBC Radio Norfolk. The room was full of photos of all of us from the old days and some more recent ones.  To eat  we had hog roast and we had a special cake in the shape of 5 stepping stones with the words ‘1989 to 2009 Stepping Stones Celebrating 20 Years’.

When we left we got a box of sweets and  a special anniversary newsletter. We had all decorated different boxes and they looked really nice and colourful.
