Good Enough to Eat

Our 2010 Spring project was all about food.  We looked at where food comes from, like the types of food that come from different animals and plants and where in the world it comes from. We talked about how to eat a balanced diet.

For the wall display we each chose a meal to make as a model.  Each meal had to have carbohydrate, protein and vegetables and may be extras like sauces or dips.  We made most of the food out of salt dough.

All the meals look really cool.  Danny made a fry up and made it look like a face with mushrooms for the eyes.  Kate used paper maché round a real potato to get her baked potato to look life like.

Time Project 2009

Last year we did a project about Time.  We made a time line of what we all do over 24 hours. We also did a pie chart that showed how the day was split into activities.  We had to do lots of maths to work it out.  Our time line strip was 172 cm long and 8 cm high and 6 cm per hour.

To finish off our time project we decided to make clocks. We all chose something different for our clock designs.  We had to do some maths to work out the clock size and we did a worksheet to work out where the hours and segments would go.  We used a protractor, compass and a calculator. There are 360° in a circle and 12 hours makes 30° for each hour.  Kate

Christmas Still Life Photos

We make our own Christmas cards every year and last year we decided to experiment with photography.  We each thought of lots of Christmassy things and chose a still life subject to photograph.  We had to learn to use the new camera and we learned about different settings and how to take close up photos.  We learned about Macro photography which lets you get really close up to see detail and textures.  We practised using the tripod and different ways of lighting our objects.  Most of us used the timer on the camera along with the tripod to make sure our photos were not blurry.  It was great fun and we plan to do more photography this year.

The Four Seasons

This year we did some work about The Four Seasons for our Spring Display. We all thought of some pictures that could represent the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.  I chose lambs, sunbathing, pumpkins and warm clothes for my pictures.  We chose colour schemes for the different seasons like oranges and browns for Autumn.  Sue drew shadows of our faces so we could choose a face to blow the Autumn wind., and some of us had a go at guessing our faces.  We have apple trees on our allotment so we made 4 apple trees for the seasons with blossom, apples, autumn leaves and bare branches. We made vegetables growing at different stages for each season.   Nicky

Jack and the Beanstalk

We were very busy in the run up to Christmas 2008, producing a Shadow Puppet Show of Jack and the Beanstalk.

You can see it on YouTube.  Don't forget to use your Browser's Back Button to come back to the Stepping Stones Site.

3D Plaster Work 2008

Our art and craft projects this year have been about 3D. We looked at Sculptures around the city. We looked at the Elephants when they were visiting and all chose a favourite one. We had a go at making moulds of our hands using play dough. Then we used plaster to make a model of our hands and we all made faces too. We had to make a mould first using all sorts of things to make the features. Then we filled it with plaster. We painted our hands and faces.  We have also made 3D picture frames out of plaster.  One student made his into a thermometer for a Mediterranean Garden.
