Dioramas 2010

We decided to make dioramas for our Autumn project. A Diorama is a 3D scale model depicting a landscape or scene.

Sue got us to pick four ideas and then choose one. So I chose a cafe as one idea, a chocolate shop as another idea and a spider and mice in a garden. That's the final choice I chose. I made the mice out of paper mache and the path I did out of paper mache too. I did it over a plasticine mould. I did the gate from cardboard and painted it black. I made a hedge out of sponges and I cut small pieces of sponge and stuck them on crumpled paper shapes for the tree. I made trellis out of cardboard. I made a web out of black cotton. I spent a long time on it and some people helped me to do bits of it. I had to paint my box. Jade made my spider out of pipe cleaners she used felt for the body and the head. I got a piece of fabric and painted it green for the grass.  Some of the other themes included The Nativity, Under the Sea, A Camping Trip, A Cake Shop and a Florist. The Dioramas were a great project.

Mosaic Tiles 2010 coloured mosaic tile
In the Summer of 2010 we made mosaic tiles. We used 49 small mosaic tiles so our final tile had 7 rows of 7 tiles. We each designed 3 patterns on a grid and chose our favourite one to make. We glued the tiles on to a white bathroom tile and left them to dry. Then we had to fill the gaps with grout. We sponged off the extra grout. It was good fun. Some of us did symmetrical patterns. Some of us used a random design. They are all colourful.  Chris Feb 2011

Good Enough to Eat

Our 2010 Spring project was all about food.  We looked at where food comes from, like the types of food that come from different animals and plants and where in the world it comes from. We talked about how to eat a balanced diet.

For the wall display we each chose a meal to make as a model.  Each meal had to have carbohydrate, protein and vegetables and may be extras like sauces or dips.  We made most of the food out of salt dough.

All the meals look really cool.  Danny made a fry up and made it look like a face with mushrooms for the eyes.  Kate used paper maché round a real potato to get her baked potato to look life like.
